Δέν Ξεχνώ!

Cyprus an independent country, one of the most beautiful islands in the Mediterranean, has been divided since the barbaric Turkish invasion in 1974. It is the only divided country in Europe. We, like thousands of other Greek Cypriots, cannot return to our birthplace. Cities, towns and villages are now mostly occupied by Turkish mainland settlers. Famagusta, one of the most modern and beautiful holiday resorts of the late 1960's and early 1970's is left as a ghost-town.

Numerous attempts at reaching a lasting solution have failed.

There are few Greeks still living in the occupied parts of Cyprus but these are mainly old folk who brave the constant threats and atrocities by the Turks.

This following award winning site by Laris Vrahimis/Λάρης Βραχίμης, lvrahimis@logos.cy.net, gives all the details about Occupied Cyprus and the enclaved Greeks who still live there.

As a result of the 1974 Turkish invasion in Cyprus, 1619 Greek-Cypriots were reported as missing. Most of them were soldiers or reservists, captured during the battles by the Turkish invasion force. Among them, however, were many civilians, women and children, arrested by the Turkish invasion troops and Turkish-Cypriot paramilitary groups, within the area controlled by the Turkish army after the cease of the battles and far away from the military front.
